AREAS OF CONCENTRATION
The Graduate Program in Gynecology and Obstetrics has an area of concentration: Gynecology and Obstetrics and two options: Reproductive Biology for doctors of other specialties and for non-doctors, and Tocogynecology for doctors specializing in Gynecology and Obstetrics.
RESEARCH LINES AND PROJECTS

Research line: EPIDEMIOLOGICAL, CLINICAL, LABORATORY, and ASPECTS OF INFECTIONS IN GYNECOLOGY AND ABSTETRICS.

Description: study the different aspects of bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections in women’s health. Study the vertical transmission of bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi under the prism of epidemiology, diagnostic resources, and advances provided by ultrasound and molecular biology, in addition to modern maternal and fetal therapeutic resources.

Research line: ENVIRONMENTAL, PSYCHIC, ANATOMICAL, HORMONAL, and MOLECULAR ASPECTS OF HOMAN SEXUAL RESPONSE

Description: it investigates the human sexual function and female and male sexual dysfunctions related to biological, psychic, and environmental factors associated with the genesis of sexual dysfunctions. It will also address the research of gender identity disorders (gender dysphoria).

Research line: EPIDEMIOLOGICAL, MOLECULAR, CLINICAL, and SURGICAL ASPECTS INVOLVED IN THE PROGNOSIS OG GYNECOLOGIC AND BREAST NEOPLASMS

Description: we study, through quantitative and qualitative methods, the factors involved in the evolution of the tumor and response to treatment in women with malignant neoplasms of the genital tract and breast. Interviews, epidemiological data from individual patients and cancer records, molecular techniques (protein and genetic analysis), and systematic reviews are used to understand the behavior of this set of diseases and predict survival and risks associated with various treatments.

Line of research: PHARMACOKINETICS, METABOLINSM, and PLACENTAL TRANSFER OF DRUGS DURING GESTATION

Description: study the particularities of drugs used during pregnancy with special emphasis on pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic behavior. Assess the placental transfer rate of drugs and risks for complications in the perinatal period.

Research line: IDENTIFICATION OF ETIOLOGICAL AND PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH PELVIC AND ENDOMETRIOSIS, and DEVELOPMENT OF STRATEGIES OF PREVETION , DIAGNOSIS, and TREATMENT OF THESE CONTIONS IN WOMEN.

Description: in this line, we will study etiological, pathophysiological, diagnostic, and therapeutic parameters of pelvic pain and endometriosis in women. We focus on the integrative approach of epidemiological, environmental, genomic, and molecular research methods to understand the pathophysiology of pelvic pain and endometriosis. We highlight in this line both clinical studies in humans and the development of experimental models.

Research line: INFERTILITY: ETIOPATHOGENIC MECHANISMS, PROGNOSTIC FACTORS, PROPAEDEUTICS, and THERAPEUTIC DIAGNOSTIC INTERVENTIONS

Description: study the different etiopathogenic mechanisms related to human infertility and the diagnostic and therapeutic approach. Moreover, it aims to evaluate the different parameters involved in the processes of gametogenesis, fertilization, embryonic development and implantation, in humans and animal experimental models.

Research line: MECHANISMS INVOLVED IN THE OVULATORY PROCESS AND ITS DYSFUNCTIONS: ETIOPATHOGENESIS, CLINICAL, METABOLIC, MOLECULAR, DIAGNOSTIC, AND THERAPEUTIC ASPECTS

Description: study the spontaneous or induced ovulatory process and its dysfunctions, identifying etiopathogenic mechanisms and the clinical, metabolic, and molecular repercussions of these conditions, and evaluate different diagnostic methods and new therapeutic options.

Research line: MORPHPOLOGICAL AND FUNCTIONAL PATTERS OF LETAL DEVELOPMENT AND MATERNAL ADAPTATIONS TO PREGNANCY

Description: study the maternal and embryo-fetal biological and biophysical phenomena that occur in normal and pathological pregnancy, serving as a basis for new concepts that were possible to understand thanks to technological progress such as ultrasound.

Line of research: REPRODUCTIVE PLANNING: EPIDEMIOLOGICAL, PSYCHOSOCIAL, CLICINAL, AND LABORATORY ASPECTS

Description: the use of contraceptives is an important factor that reduces maternal morbidity and mortality, avoiding unplanned pregnancies and their complications. This line evaluates the multiple aspects of reproductive planning to contribute to evidence on the safe use of contraceptive methods.
